In the aftermath of a harrowing childhood, Lynda Long knew as an adult she possessed the strength and the skills needed to combat the lingering side effects of child abuse and neglect. She continued to practice the very mindset that brought her through fifteen years of enduring the unspeakable…
with never-ending perseverance and unshakable determination.
But it wasn’t until her visit to the Texas death row to say goodbye to her youngest brother, David Martin Long that she decided the time had come to act on her lifelong vow. Stunned to see boys as young as seventeen years old behind bars waiting for their date with the executioner, Lynda went into action. She began to reach out and speak in the hope she might convince others that coming from what seemed to be an inescapable world of evil, that it is not only conquerable but empowering.
It was time to tell the story of what is was like for her, and her brothers Gary, Daniel and David growing up shuttled around Texas and California, homeless at times, with a neglectful mother and a sadistic father. Lynda realized it was her purpose to impart to others not only the factors that led to her and Gary’s survival, but also what caused Daniel and David to self-destruct.
Lynda has spoken to various organizations with her message “Everything I Really Needed to Know, I Learned in Death Row”. To the youth she has spoken to, she stressed, the importance of maintaining control over their lives by never giving in and dwelling on the memories of the bad childhood their parents gave them. Instead, she encourages young people to pursue and discover the incredible hidden power of those who choose to use their survival for the good!
